DR. Tayiem is very organized. He is professional and will answer any question I have. The information folder was very helpful pre-op, as was the required visit to the registered dietitian. I was impressed that he came to the support group meeting at the beginning of the meeting and am told that he attends briefly each time. That is very helpful. Surgical competence is most important to me.

My first impression of Dr Tayiem was he is a very serious man. He wants you to understand that this is a life changing event and you need to be prepared for the changes you are about to go through and you have to work on the changes. His office staff is wonderful. Shella quickly answers or find the answers you are looking for promptly. Dr. Tayiem is very soft spoken. Aftercare is very important. He expects you to follow his advice. Dr Tayiem went through the risk of the surgery several times. He does the surgery and expects you to do the follow up work, such as exercise and eat right. I would rate him as extreemly knowlegable in his field. I have no complaints. Posted on 12/28/2006

Dr Tayiem was direct and business like.he made it clear that I would be expected to attend the support group meeting after I met with the dietician. I found Dr Tayiem to be a very good surgeon who is highly competent and happy to answer any medical Questions. If a prospective patient needs to be pampered by the doctor then they should look elsewhere in my judgement. his office staff were always friendly and helpful.

I have been more than pleased with Dr. Tayiem?s care and expertise. I first met him in the spring of 2005, and was impressed at how much he sincerely seemed to care about my health and well-being, and the honesty with which he presented the impending process. He made it clear that it was up to me and the effort I put forth toward making a ?life change?. All the pre-op testing was very thorough, and the staff at Atchison Hospital was always professional and friendly, and I never felt like a ?number? or just another person adding to their $ coffers. I had the lap-band procedure on August 11, 2005 with no complications ? in fact, I couldn?t believe how pain-free I was from the moment I woke up in my room. I would also highly recommend being involved with Merri Leach, the nutritionist at the hospital, and their support group. Even though I have been unable to attend often, I still feel part of the group through emails and conversations with people who have gone through the same procedure. To date, I have lost 55 lbs. and have been able to stop my diabetes medicine. Dr. Tayiem?s office is friendly and helpful, and I know I can call and get an appointment whenever I need to. I like the home-town feel and would highly recommend Dr. Tayiem if you are considering the lap-band surgery.

I've had my initial consultation with Dr. Tayiem and was impressed with his knowledge of the bariatric procedures. His credentials show that he has extensive experience with bariatric surgery and he seems to be very concerned that you know the risks and the lifelong changes that will have to be made. The surgery is just the tool and we have to do everything in our power to make it work. The office is small and makes you wonder if you're in the right place but once there you're made to feel very comfortable and the office manager, Schella, is wonderful. She has been very helpful in answering any questions I've had and with working with my insurance company. I'll update more after my next visit with Dr. Tayiem and after the surgery also.

My first impression of Dr. Tayiem was that he was a very nice man. I am located in his area and he does much more then Bariatic Surgeries. He does many Gastro Intestinal procedures. I had to have a GI scope of my gall bladder duct after the removal of my gall bladder, this was in 2002. He is very personable, it may seem like he does not talk very much, but thats sort of because he can be difficult to understand. I have had many appointments with him and he talks alot. He has even spoken many times to me about his own life, how because of his religon he must fast, and not eat anything for several hours, trying to let me know that the insulin problem I have is messing with my head, that I dont need to eat very much at all. I have never wavered in my respect of him over time, he is great... [Click here for more] person. His office Staff is completely excellent, I had difficulty with scheduling my surgery because his hospital did not accept my insurance, but Humana did accept the hospital anyway and she drove around and fixed this in person. He is very serious in his manner about aftercare. His dietian is superb. She has got me enrolled in many support groups for when I totally recover, I just got out of surgery 2 days ago. This aftercare program is very structured, the dietian has a informative yet simple little book for everything I must know. He addressed the risks for surgery alot. It seemed like he did not want me to have the surgery because he stated them so much. I would truly rate the Surgeon a 10/10. There is nothing at all wrong with him. I wont take anything off him because he is sort of difficult to understand, that would be not be the right thing to do. The only negative thing about the whole experience was some of the hospital care I received at the Atchision Hospital. They annoyed me on a constant basis and even Dr. Tayiem was angered with them. They would give me some pain-killing medicine called demorall in my IV that really only works because it puts you to sleep, and then wake me up 5 minutes later to breath into a toy-like device. This negates the medicine competely and you cant have more then 1 dose in four hours. So I would get the medicine, pain would stop because it made me fall asleep, then they would wake me up, pain comes back and I would have to wait 4 hours before they gave me more, then they would wake me up again.

my first impression of Dr. Tayiem was that he was serious when talking to you about the surgery but once he was done talking with you he was a very nice person. He takes his job very seriously but he is also very comfortable to talk to and I wasn't afraid to ask him questions. He even called me at home to check up on me after I went home from the hospital. While in the hospital if anything was bothering me he took care of what was bothering physical wise. I like Dr. Tayiem very much he is a great doctor.

I first met Dr. Tayiem in May of 2004. I sensed from the first that he was a very caring doctor. He wanted to impress upon me the importance of my part in this journey we were undertaking. He required an extensive pre-op work up which included a psychiatric evaluation, a visit with a dietician, and physical therapist. I also had to undergo an upper g.i. test, gall bladder sonogram, ekg, blood work, and a special diet. His office staff was helpful and friendly and always encouraging, as has been the staff at the hospital. When I have had questions, they have done their best to answer them. Dr. Tayiem has returned all my calls quickly and never made me feel that they were silly. Dr. Tayiem emphasis the need for regular attendance at the support group at the hospital, and regular follow up visits. He made it very clear though that this is not a magic fix, and that the level of my success will be determined by my own willingness to work, and participate in the support offered. He was also very thorough in covering the risks of surgery. I knew that Dr. Tayiem has been doing bariatric surgery and Laparoscopic surgery for many years and the Lap band in particular for well over a year, and that helped me to feel comfortable about having the procedure. He is a great surgeon, with a caring and helpful staff, and a fine support network in place to help in ensuring success in my weight loss journey.

My first impression of Dr. Tayiem and his office wasn't great. It was small, in a small town, and they didn't have a scale that went high enough to weigh me. But in dealing with him and his office, I found my first impression wasn't correct. He was extremely thorough in tests he wanted me to have. He was able to get thing done for my health that my regular doc didn't think was necessary. Like a sleep study. I found out I do have sleep apnea. My PCP thought it was silly to order a sleep study. Schella in Dr. Tayiem's Atchison office is wonderful! The best thing about his office is that you don't have to wait months and months to be seen. They are very quick to check on things and get back with you. Dr. Tayiem isn't very personable at first, but seems to be a very competant surgeon. He's smart enough to have surrounded himself with very caring people, so that as a patient, I felt I was cared about and cared FOR very well. He stressed that he would not do the surgery unless I was physically able to handle it. He told me my larger size (around 400) made him a little nervous, and encouraged me to lose weight with the pre-op diet. I wish I lived closer, because they do seem to have a good support group up there. I'm 3 hours south, but the dietician is so nice. He has a website, and tries to get pre-op patients to connect with post-op patients. Overall, I would rate him as an "8" but that's mostly because of bedside manner and me not being close enough to take advantage of all the support.

My new surgeon is Dr. Tayiem. While you first meet him, it may be hard to understand him a little bit, but listen closely and you will understand him easier. He is very nice. Joked with me a bit and even said I was a beautiful girl which made my day :) His office was easy to reach, easy to get an appt. and quick for this process. I saw him in Aug and am having surgery next week, (september)... so that is awesome. His office is nice, Shella is very helpful and the nurses I met on my tour of the hospital seemed very caring and personable. I have a good feeling about surgery. Wish the hospital was more advanced, but hopefully no complications arise and all will be well. Previous ordeals: Met Dr. H early this month (May)... he was very nice and I loved the fact that I got to... [Click here for more] meet with him ONE ON ONE, unlike many surgeons who make you come in a group and talk to them, only to meet with you for 5 minutes after the group session. He gave me enough time to ask anything I wanted, even seemed glad I had a list of questions ready to ask. Most of the questions I had, he answered during his talk with me before I had a chance to ask them. My husband and I were both very impressed with him and his office. I had one concern about the amount of surgeries he has done in bariatrics but I laid that to rest knowing that he still has the skills that were taught to him fresh in his mind. He didn't pressure me to have RNY over lapband, either, and that made me very happy. He was pleased with my decision to have lapband it seemed, and I appreciated that a lot. Very nice man.

Well I went to the hospital on our post and got a referral letter for me to go and see my doctor. Well I tried for over a month to get into see him a then I called Tricare and got a new referral to see a different doctor. I finally ended up with Dr. Tayiem. And if you can believe this the secretary could of gotten me into see him the following Monday ( I called on a Friday). Well I went in to see him on that Tuesday. He was very informative about the surgery and what he expected from me as a patient. I had to write a letter to my insurance company and fax it to his office explaining on why I would like to have the surgery. I took a lil time to think about which surgery I would like to have and I opted for the open RNY gastric bypass. I was on leave with my family back in Michigan... [Click here for more] and the doctor's office called me in Michigan to let me know that I was approved for the surgery. Something that I would like to stress in this surgery is that it really helps if you have a good support system, my husband and father helped me out tremendoulsy after the sugery. The office staff at Dr. Tayiem's office was great. I always got called back in a timely manner. When I was in the hospital I had to mention to my doctor that my meals where not very great I in fact had a italian ice cream on my tray and I think that was not good for someone who just had a gastric bypass, my doctor informed me that he was going to get with the nutrionist. I think Dr. Tayiems office was good in all aspects of my surgery and when I was not happy with anything I let him know I was not happy.

Dr. Tayiem was very knowledgeable and low pressure when helping me to make my decision. He gave me some different options and left the decision up to me although he did make recommendations. He is very knowledgable. Posted on 11/15/2002

He was very nice and I thought very careful with looking at my chart and getting my history. When I asked questions I got I felt truthful answers. His office staff was very nice. He said we'd talk more when I got my insurance approval, which I understand because, it would be a waste of time otherwise. I'll keep you informed!

Dr. Tayiem is very nice and informative. He (and his staff) helped me get my insurance approved and the surgery is set to take place in 6 days now.

I met with Dr. Tayiem for the first time on 7/09. Seemed very knowledgable about the lapband. Thought it would be the best choice in my case.

I have only seen him once and he was very nice. He told me that if my insurance does not approve the surgery that it is against the law. I found him to be very reasuring and kind. I will update as I have more contact with him. 11-08-2001 Dr. Tayiem has been very understanding about my anxiety about the surgery. When he has news (such as my approval for surgery) he calls me in person. I thought this was great! He has informed me of the risks and was very serious about them. He will not perform RNY Lap only open, but he is looking into providing lap for the adjustable bands for future patients. He is a very busy surgeon overall I rate him a 9 on a scale of 1-10. Only because he is foregin (nothing wrong with that) and a little hard to understand what he is saying sometimes.
